Environmental Manifesto
The staff of the Rheology and Processes Laboratory at the University of Grenoble Alpes, aware of the climate and environmental emergency, is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and adopting a stance consistent with the challenges facing our society. We are convinced that each of our actions must contribute to a more environmentally respectful world and provide dignified living conditions for as many people as possible, both today and in the future.
Our approach is also part of a movement that many research laboratories are following. We must respect international agreements and treaties limiting the impact of human activities, as research cannot exempt itself from these commitments. Therefore, we need to transform our research practices to align with greenhouse gas reduction trajectories : by 2050, our carbon footprints must be less than 2 tons of CO2 equivalent per person.
Thus, we commit to:
-
Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2019, aiming for a per capita emission target of 2.7 tCO2eq in 2030, in line with the National Low Carbon Strategy, whose goal is to limit global warming to 1.5 °C, as recommended by the IPCC (1.5 °C target, SR15, IPCC).
-
Consider reducing our environmental footprint as essential for managing research projects and in our daily practices.
-
Develop, with the support of all laboratory members, relevant indicators of our greenhouse gas emissions and implement incentive tools to support the transition toward more sustainable practices.
-
Raise awareness, through workshops or group discussions, among at least 70% of staff members (with the goal of 100%, excluding interns) within two years starting in 2023, about the importance of their role in reducing our environmental footprint, encouraging active participation in discussions about our emissions, and experimenting with proposed solutions.
-
Assign the task to a working group to support this responsibility initiative and share best practices.
-
Ensure that our research activities are conducted with respect for the environment and take into account the environmental impacts of our projects.
We are aware that reducing our environmental footprint requires significant efforts at all levels and demands strong commitment from each of us. By adopting this environmental charter, we pledge to act together to protect our planet and offer a desirable future for future generations.
Carbon footprint
The LRP uses tools developed by the Labo1.5 Research Group to calculate the Carbon Footprint (BGES) of its research activities.
