Dynamic structural organization of electrospun biobased nanocomposites under uniaxial/biaxial extension probed by in-situ USAXS/SAXS/WAXS

The project is focused on the development of biosourced nanocomposites with controllable anisotropic textures by electrospinning for biomedical applications.

The induced structuration by electrospinning and the effect of added nanoparticles aim at promoting cell adhesion and tissue regeneration. The Scientific Goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the physical mechanisms responsible for reinforcement/orientations induced by extensional forces in the bulk of these nanocomposites. The technical approach involves processing of these nanocomposites composed of polycarprolactone reinforced by α-lactalbumin self-assembled amyloid fibers or cellulose nanocrystals by electrospinning. The nanocomposites will be investigated upon subjecting to tensile tests that allow relating strain/stress characteristics to their transient structural changes probed by in situ time resolved USAXS/SAXS/WAXS at TRUSAXS Beamline. 

You will join ID02 team composed of 7 people and study multiscale structural organization in biobased nanocomposites subjected to extension using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and related methods. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with Laboratoire Rhéologie et Procédés (LRP), Université Grenoble Alpes. 

The beamline ID02 is a high-resolution time-resolved SAXS/WAXS/USAXS instrument featuring a 34m long detector tube combined with state-of-the-art detectors. The beamline is primarily dedicated to research on soft materials and biological specimens. Current inhouse research topics include dynamics of driven colloids, spontaneous self-assembly processes in amphiphilic systems, and relationship between microstructure and rheology in complex fluids.
