Environmental Manifesto
The staff of the Laboratory of Rheology and Processing at the University of Grenoble Alpes, aware of the climate and environmental emergency, is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and adopting practices consistent with the challenges facing our society. We are convinced that every action we take must contribute to a more environmentally responsible world and help ensure dignified living conditions for as many people as possible, both now and in the future.
Our approach is part of a broader movement embraced by many research laboratories. We must respect international agreements and treaties that limit the impact of human activities, as research cannot be exempt from these commitments. Consequently, we need to transform our research practices to align with greenhouse gas reduction trajectories: by 2050, our carbon footprint should be less than 2 tons of CO2 equivalent per person.
Thus, we commit to:
- Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2019, aiming for a per capita target of 3 tCO₂eq in 2030, in line with the National Low Carbon Strategy and the IPCC’s 1.5 °C goal (SR15).
- Considering the reduction of our environmental footprint as an essential aspect of managing research projects and guiding our daily practices.
- Developing, with the support of all laboratory members, relevant indicators to track our greenhouse gas emissions and implementing incentive tools to encourage the transition toward more sustainable practices.
- Raising awareness among at least 70% of staff (with a goal of 100%, excluding interns) within two years starting in 2023, through workshops and group discussions, highlighting the importance of each person’s role in reducing our environmental footprint, encouraging active participation in discussions, and experimenting with proposed solutions.
- Assigning a working group to oversee this initiative, support responsible practices, and share best Ensuring that our research activities are conducted with respect for the environment, carefully considering the environmental impacts of our projects.
We acknowledge that reducing our environmental footprint requires significant effort at all levels and strong commitment from everyone. By adopting this environmental charter, we pledge to act collectively to protect our planet and secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
